Hey! Welcome to Explore a Corner! I’m Lauren, a Drama and Theatre Art Graduate turned Backpacker, Blogger and TEFL teacher.
Explore a Corner is for anyone out there interested in travelling and experiencing something new. This blog gives a insight into the adventures that await you if you are brave enough to go out and get them! I share my experiences to inspire, inform and entertain. There is no one right way to travel and there is no wrong way either. We’re all just making it up as we go along so we may as well help each other out.
I don’t think I could identify when exactly I became ill with the travelling bug. It was sneaky and happened slowly. Growing up I always loved the idea of travel but I never really thought of it as a lifestyle. I don’t think I even knew it COULD be a lifestyle.
Camp America was my first real taste of travel outside of family holidays. I went in 2014 and had the most amazing and memorable 3 months. I felt like I was free, it was independence at it’s best. I was embracing every day and thriving in my new life. (Wow cheese alert). But I had another year left of university. Now don’t get me wrong I loved university, the course and the people so I did finish my course but I knew it was travel I would choose after graduating.
Whilst everyone else started thinking about post gradation employment opportunities, I was booking a one way flight to New Zealand. Everyone else was heavy with the headache of adulthood and I was giddy with excitement of a working holiday abroad. I’m amazed none of my uni friends didn’t punch me during those months. My year in New Zealand was confirmation that travelling was my passion. I feel more relaxed in a crowded, noisy hostel common room than I do when I’m at home in my own bedroom. I am reluctant to spend my money on anything that isn’t related to a new adventure. I get bored and irritable if I feel stuck somewhere and I relish new experiences.
I first started blogging in 2014 when I went to America. It was so I could document my travels and keep family and friends updated without having the same conversation 50 times. (I totally don’t have that many friends but my point’s more effective if I exaggerate). It was a diary format with an array of spelling and grammar errors. As not only am I poor at those things anyway but I was writing my posts on a Kindle in a van with poor Wi-Fi.
So why have I decided to give blogging another go? I want to inspire people and I want to encourage people. This is my offering to other travel enthusiasts. I love reading other travel blogs and picking up tips and advice but also just hearing other people’s stories and experiences from around the world. I share my experiences so you can see how accessible the world really is. You don’t need to be rich, you don’t need to have a successful career, you don’t even need to have a plan. You just need to decide that travel is for you.
I hope you enjoy you time at Explore a Corner. Feel free to get in touch, I am on twitter and pinterest and love hearing other peoples stories and recommendations.
